Watch the anime Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha Shijou Saikyou Season 2 has been officially confirmed to be in production. But when will Maou Gakuin Season 2 come out?
It has also been announced that the second season will be a split-cour anime.
What is a “course”, you may ask? For those unfamiliar with the term, a “cour” is a three-month block of TV broadcasting based on a physical season that typically consists of 10 to 13 episodes.
A “split-cour” is when an anime season takes a few months off before resuming TV broadcasts.
The anime announcement took place at Kadokawa Light Novel Expo 2020, which was postponed from October March 6 and 7, 2021.
The second season will feature Anos Voldigoad, Sasha Necron, Misha Necron, and friends investigating the plot by the gods and the true nature of the fake Demon Lord Avos Dilhevia.
On February 24, 2021, the official Twitter account for the TV anime series seemed to be teasing a second season.
“Do you think this will be the last of ‘The Misfit of Demon King Academy’?” tweeted the account. You have to wait a little longer.
When Can You Watch Anime Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha Shijou Saikyou Season 2?
As of the latest update, Square Enix, Aniplex, Silver Link, or other companies associated with the anime’s production have not officially confirmed the release date of The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2. Production of the sequel to Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha Season 2 was announced in early March 2021.
Once the news is officially confirmed, this article will be updated with relevant information.
Meanwhile, it is still possible to speculate about when the Maou Gakuin Season 2 premiere date will be in the future.
In recent years, Studio Silver Link has been given the green light to produce a second season for several fantasy/isekai anime based on the popularity of the first season. Death March and the Grandson of the Sages are notable exceptions, but they have completely different companies backing their production.
It’s up to Aniplex as they are the main producers. If an anime series is popular enough, they tend to finance a second season or film sequel.
Examples include The Promised Neverland Season 2, Cells At Work!! Season 2, Cells At Work! CODE BLACK, Sword Art Online Season 4, Kaguya-same: Love is War Season 3, Magia Record Season 2, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (and Demon Slayer Seasons 2 and 3), Bunny Girl Senpai, and many sequels to Fate.
Death March and the Grandson of the Sages also fail to gain traction largely due to the general nature of the plot and characters. Despite the similarities to the two anime, reviewers are much friendlier to Maou Gakuin. Episode scores have increased as the anime is given the opportunity to reveal its distinct characteristics.
It’s possible that many of the bad reviews were knee-jerk reactions to the early premise of Episode 1 which was similar to the previous anime. Or, maybe the reviewers just don’t like strong fantasy stories, to begin with.
Fortunately, the relative strength of the source material allowed the Maou Gakuin anime to rise from mediocrity and secure enough popularity and thus financial success for a second season.
So far, the Blu-Ray/DVD sales figures in Japan are pretty good. The Misfit of Demon King Academy Blu-Ray/DVD Volume 1 sold 2,473 copies in the first week, while Volume 4 sold 2,302 copies in the first week.
While these numbers give us an idea of anime’s popularity in Japan, it’s streaming revenue that’s the biggest factor.
Fast forward to 2021 when The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 is announced. Since the second season was announced in March 2021, the possible release date of The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2 is 2022.
